Nomination and assessment

Supervisors and examiners are encouraged to nominate master theses that they believe deserve the STK prize. Here, you can read about the criteria for nomination, and how the candidates are assessed.

Nomination criteria

  • The thesis must have been submitted at the University of Oslo, and must have a clear gender perspective
  • The thesis must be based on the student’s independent research, and must display originality
  • Each candidate can only be nominated once
  • The candidate must have received the grade A or B
  • The prize can be awarded to theses that have been submitted and assessed between January 1st and December 31st of the year in question, or in December of the previous year

The nomination must include

  • The candidate’s summary of the thesis
  • The supervisor’s/examiner’s explanation as to why they have nominated the thesis

Assessment

The jury assesses the nominations based on the thesis summary and the nominator’s justification. The jury does not read the nominated theses. This means that it is important to submit a thorough justification that clearly sets out the academic merits of the nominated thesis.

Assessment criteria

The jury assesses the work based on three main criteria:

  • Grade awarded
  • Quality
  • Relevance to the field of gender studies
